Report

The 1992 Carlsberg Irish Ice Hockey League featured the Dublin flyers for the first time, who along with the Coleraine Jets were the only teams not based at the Dundonald Olympic Ice Rink. Fuel Services Oilers were the defending champions, and all of the Northern Ireland teams could boast semi-pro Canadian players on their roster. The Dublin Flyers had a very fit 55-year-old Japanese Businessman to call upon for experience, while all the other players in the Dublin team learnt what they could from watching TV.

The flyers had done badly in a few friendlies with Northern teams the previous season and not much was expected of them but were 6-1 up in the first period against the Belfast Panthers in their first match before the Panthers knew what hit them, and drew with Fuel Services Oilers, the defending champions, in their second match.
